As the lead developer of Mangrove City, I lead a project that received top awards, including the Augmented World Expo 2023 XR Prize Challenge for Best in Educate and the Best in Florida award at the Filmgate Interactive 2023 festival in Miami, FL.
Mangrove City is an immersive VR experience designed to educate middle school students about the vital role of mangrove forests. From world-building to developing engaging mini-games, conducting user testing, and optimizing performance for mobile processors like the Meta Quest 2, I was involved in every aspect of the project.
Mangrove City allows users to explore a fictional metropolis and witness firsthand the significance of mangrove ecosystems in protecting coastal communities and combating climate change. Paired with curriculum aligned with national science standards, teachers can seamlessly integrate this VR experience into their classrooms for immersive one-day workshops.
Throughout Mangrove City, students embark on a journey to understand coastal destruction, learn about various mangrove species, and discover the diverse bird and fish species thriving within these ecosystems. By immersing students in this virtual world, Mangrove City encourages them to think about careers in helping the environment while also showing them how cool nature can be.
